Maquis Winery

Maquis Winery

Maquis wine production dates back to the 18th century, when the vineyards belonged to the Jesuits who used the land for wine production.

During the 19th century, the Maquis vineyard belonged to two former Presidents of Chile, Federico Errázuriz Zañartu and Federico Errázuriz Echaurrren, who organized cabinet meetings in this valley. In order for the ministers to reach the location, bridges were built which are currently part of the cultural and historical heritage of the area.

In 1916 Viña Maquis was acquired by the Hurtado family and Ignacio Hurtado, only 23 years old, built the first vinification and storage for the winery.

In 2002, after several decades formulating a commercial strategy of the vineyard, the Hurtado family began the construction of a new wine cellar and storage. This is a sustainable winery that creates the best of each cultivated variety through their production process.

Much of the vinification process in Viña Maquis is still very traditional and manual. The objective is that the grape is handled as little as possible so that it can show its full potential from the vine to the bottle to yield high-end wines.

Viña Maquis is located between the Tinguiririca River and the Chimbarongo estuary which act as corridors for the coastal breezes that protect the vineyards from frost during spring and from high temperatures in the summer.
