The museums provide a history of Chile with a variety of exhibits including Incan and Pre-Columbian Art and Sculptures, Vintage Automobiles, Crafts and more.

Colchagua Museum (Museo de Colchagua)

The Colchagua Museum is the largest private museum in Latin America and offers visitors a unique experience with exhibits about Chilean and South American history. The museum has several collections of archaeology and pre-Columbian art of Chile, Peru and Colombia, as well as American history.

There are over 18 sections to explore including collections of fossils, the jewels of the Andes with items made by the Olmeca, Maya, Aztec and Incas cultures, and a hall filled with classic automobiles, trains and antique farming machinery.

The Room of the Big Rescue is the newest exhibit to the Colchagua Museum which opened in honor of the 33 miners rescued from the 2010 Copiapó mining accident after being stuck underground for 2 months. On display are commemorative objects, photographs and audiovisual footage, testimonial pieces of those moments lived at Camp Hope (Campamento Esperanza) and multiple rescue plans.

This museum is extensive so there is alot to see. Walking through the entire museum will takes 3-4 hours.  Your ticket will give you 24 hour access to the museum if you want to leave and come back.

Museum of San Jose del Carmen de El Huique

Take a peek into the the lifestyle of Chile’s 19th-century rich and famous. The Errázuriz family, who can trace the 2,600-acre estate back through family lines to 1756, donated the estate to the Chilean Army in 1975. The Museo of San Jose del Carmen de El Huique was reopened as a museum in the 1990s and is now the only remaining estate of its kind in Chile that has been preserved. Visitors will be able to see the sumptuous suites full of collections of opal glass, lead crystal, bone china, antique furniture, and family portraits evoking Chile’s aristocratic past.

This museum was re-opened in 2014 after extensive reconstruction following the 2010 earthquake in Chile.

Automobile Museum (Museo del Automovil)

For anyone who is into vintage cars, the Automobile Museum is housed at the Santa Cruz Winery in Lolol. The exhibit showcases a large collection of American and European antique cars, from 1890 to the 1980′s, which shows the evolution of the automotive industry in Chile. Some of the cars on display include a Ferrari 512, Porsche 928, a pair of Ford T, some Jaguars, a Citronetas, plus the first public transport and cargo vehicles that circulated in Santa Cruz.

Lolol Handicrafts Museum (Museo de Artesanía de Lolol)

The Lolol Handicrafts Museum is in a large, restored house and the crafts on display are made from different materials from various geographic areas of Chile. Declared a national monument, this museum houses the largest and most representative collection of national handicrafts.
